A documentary series on Indrani Mukerjea, who is on trial for the murder of her daughter Sheena Bora, was released on OTT platform Netflix after the Bombay High Court on Thursday rejected the CBI’s plea against its broadcast.
The documentary series titled ``Indrani Mukerjea’s Story: The Hidden Truth” is about the disappearance of 25-year-old Bora and was originally scheduled to premiere on Netflix on February 23.
The Supreme Court asked the makers of the documentary to refrain from releasing it after the CBI moved the court claiming that the documentary could affect judicial proceedings. On Thursday, the court granted his release after rejecting the CBI’s request to stay pending completion of proceedings in the case.
According to reports, Bora was strangled to death in her car in April 2012 by Mukerja, her then-driver Shyamvar Rai, and her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna.
Bora was Mukarja’s daughter from a previous relationship. Her body was burnt in a forest in Raigad district of Maharashtra.
The murder case came to light in 2015 when Rai uncovered the murder after being arrested in another case. Mukerja was arrested in August 2015 and released on bail in May 2022. Another accused in the case, Rai, Khanna and Indrani’s ex-husband Peter Mukerja, is also out on bail.
The CBI had claimed that the documentary could raise public awareness and thereby influence judicial opinion. However, the court pointed out that the court had also looked at this series and had actually assumed that the CBI would not enforce the charges against them.
