Highlights from Alabama basketball’s loss to Florida in the SEC Tournament

The Crimson Tide went one-up with a loss in the quarterfinal round on Friday night in Nashville.

NASHVILLE, Tennessee – Alabama basketball came to a halt in Music City quickly for the first time in Nate Oats’ tenure, as the 3-seeded Crimson Tide fell to 6-seeded Florida 102-88 in the quarterfinals on Friday night.

It was Alabama’s fourth loss in six games, as the team has slowed down after an incredibly strong performance over the first 3.5 months of the season.

Normally, I have three or more takeaways from each game, but after this game, I’m really only left with two main thoughts:

1. Again, the defense was determined by the offense.
If Nate Oats had a list of his most overused phrases heading into the 2023-24 season, this one would definitely top the list: Don’t let your offensive success overshadow your defensive effort.

They’ve said it over and over again, and still, it remains the biggest issue for the Alabama basketball team.

The Crimson Tide got off to an excellent start to the game from an energy and defensive effort standpoint. Alabama jumped out to an 8–0 lead, forcing Florida to call a quick timeout, and everything about the effort stepped up to a level not typically seen from this team on defense.

But after a few more minutes, Alabama’s offense slowed down a bit. 3-pointers didn’t fall at the rate they usually do, and before you knew it, the Crimson Tide were in a scoring drought.

Once severe drought began, frustrations arose. When players on this team can’t see their shots go in, it demotivates them, and it hinders their ability to get deep and shut down the defense.

The results continued to escalate, and resulted in Florida going on a nearly unimaginable 21–2 run, leading the Gators by 15. And at that point, it was over.

“Adverse situations happen,” Oats said. “Then you miss a shot, the ref misses a call, your teammate misses you being open. I mean, you can see it. The defense doesn’t have intensity. Poor defensive possession, They score. We don’t come back moving the ball with speed on offense. Makes the next offensive possession difficult. Just a snowball effect.”

Oats perfectly described what he sees as a coach when teams falter defensively. Perhaps more worrying were the reactions from his players when asked about the defense.

Alabama guard Aaron Estrada said, “I don’t know what it is. We started very well today. We really haven’t started well in our last few games.” “I think we started very well today. Then they scored a little bit. We turned from there every time. […] I don’t really know what happened, but I feel like as soon as we Was playing throughout the game that ended.”

Oates sees the issues, and can describe their root perfectly, but it seems the players are capable of implementing solutions. This is not a simple solution either. It’s a deeper issue of mental toughness that this team has repeatedly failed to reach a high enough level.

It made up for nearly all of this year’s losses, and now Alabama has one last chance to fix things before the season ends.

2. All hope is not lost for the NCAA Tournament.
Alabama’s run in the SEC Tournament is now over, with only the NCAA Tournament remaining. This means the next time Alabama loses a game, the 2024 season will be over.

If you don’t realize the urgency with this, I don’t know what will happen to you.

“We have to try to get the perspective back, just make a change,” Oates said. “We want to win every game but, we have to focus on defending every possession. We are going to try to repeat that for next week. Whether we play on Thursday or Friday next week, we have to be right at the gate. Ready to go out.”

The beautiful thing about the NCAA Tournament is that it’s a fresh start for everybody. A clean slate. The record of all 68 teams in the field is 0-0.

Alabama hasn’t ended the season on a strong note heading into the Big Dance, but it’s happened before and teams have made runs. In 2017, South Carolina lost its first game of the SEC Tournament and advanced to the Final Four. This is not a death sentence, although it naturally does not inspire much confidence.

The good news is that Alabama has positioned itself well. It is likely to be a 4-seed, which means it will face a 13-seed mid-major in the first round. A first round win, and that gives a team a chance to play offense with this talented player on a 1-day scout, which will be difficult for any team in the country.

Depending on the draw, there is still a path for Alabama to reach the second weekend of the tournament, but to do so, it will have to produce a more consistent effort defensively.

Stop me if you’ve heard this before.

Oats said, “We have a week to decide if they can guard 40 minutes. If we can, we can make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.” “In my opinion, it’s not because of a lack of quality defensive personnel. Obviously we’re missing some guys here and there. We have guys who are capable of being better than even strong defenders. We need that kind of work.” What’s not to do is have a top three defense in the country when we have a top three offense in the country.” Click Here

Will there be a change in this team’s defensive mentality, or do we already know what this team is? While the latter may be a possibility, there is still a chance for this team to have a successful time in the NCAA Tournament. Click here

Yodha movie review: You won’t be able to resist this silly venture from Sidharth Malhotra

Yodha Movie Review: Things soon turn sour as Sidharth Malhotra goes all out in the rescue operation, which ends on a pacifist note in the heart of our neighboring country.

If there’s still any doubt in one’s mind, being patriotic out loud is the surest route to washing away one’s past sins: In the airplane hijacking drama produced by Sidharth Malhotra, produced by Dharma Productions, even the rescue flares are ‘Tiranga’ Releases three shades of ‘. , clap clap.

Sidharth Malhotra plays the role of Arun Katyal, a soldier in the Yodha unit that has been assembled to make things right every time they go wrong. And as far as the writers of this movie are concerned, if you’re on an airplane, things are guaranteed to go downhill. After a very rough first round, our heroes get a chance to set things right, and the poor passengers are once again harassed (the plane turns upside down, gasp), the bad guys have beards and Muslim names. Let’s say, the destination is Islamabad, and the plan is to (double gasp) derail the peace process between India and Pakistan, yes, you guessed it.

You can accuse me of letting all the cats out of the bag, but I just can’t keep myself from seeing these amazing details of this totally hairy venture for so long: I mean, have you seen not just one but two planes? Have you seen it? The carpets are just waiting to be pulled aside and a flap can be easily lifted for passengers to go up and down the hold? No? Didn’t think.

And then the film offers a twist by saying look, look, we’re not fanatics; Some Pakistanis are good people; Only those dangerous terrorists are responsible for this. While using bombs to blow things up the main villain says – ‘What will happen to us if there is peace?’, or words to that effect.

But do not worry. Our warrior is bravely bearing the scars of his failure in professional and personal spheres. Separation from spouse-cum-top bureaucrat (Raashi Khanna) is a pain that can’t be scratched, even as he goes all out in a rescue operation, dealing with a petite air-hostess (Disha Patani), Who’s hiding something, and a rookie pilot in the hot-seat, and ends on a pacifist note right in the middle of our neighboring country.

You might not be able to escape this cartoonish rigmarole, but our warrior, right off the bat, comes up with the best line of the film: I’m the hero of this picture. clap clap.

In a hijacking situation, the plane’s head purser (Disha Patani) struts around like a catwalk model until she’s ready to show her true colors and jump into action. The first officer in the cockpit also has plans that take the hero by surprise. There are numerous fights in the aisles, lavatories and cargo holds, even as the aircraft loses altitude and goes off course. Click here

And on board the plane is a trainee – he claims to have 200 hours of flying experience – who is forced to take control of the plane as the crisis escalates. Don’t try to put two and two together because everything the warrior collects doesn’t really add up to anything.

It’s too much to expect Sidharth Malhotra to dig this mess out. He jumps, runs, punches, fires in all directions and holds his position as chaos erupts around him – it’s mostly of his own making – but the actor manages to escape with warrior-like chaos. Can’t get up.

As for the rest of the cast, they follow every step of the way. Nothing can be seen from his face. Is this the indifference of the brave? No, it’s a sign that like the audience, they too are ignorant.

Why did the Packers choose Josh Jacobs over Aaron Jones at RB?

Why did the Packers choose Josh Jacobs over Aaron Jones at RB?

GREEN BAY, Wis.–The Green Bay Packers didn’t plan on signing a big-name contract, but when talks with Aaron Jones about a pay cut broke down last weekend, they immediately Fast forward to the weekend and decided to go after free agent Josh Jacobs. By Monday afternoon, the team made one of the biggest changes to its position in recent history — other than the transition from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love last year — when they waived Jones and signed him to a four-year, $48 million deal.

Expressed agreement. Along with Jacobs, who spent his first five seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders. Based on information from multiple parties with knowledge of the events, it was clear that things changed rapidly – especially considering that when Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was asked less than six weeks earlier if If Jones would return, he said “absolutely.” Jones was due to receive $12 million in salary and bonuses in 2024 and had a salary cap hit of $17 million. The Packers had asked Jones to significantly cut those numbers; This comes as Jones took a $5 million salary cut from $16 million last year, to $11 million. At one time early last week, the Packers thought Jones might be ready for a deal, however.

But by Friday, Jones and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, informed the team’s contract negotiator, Gutekunst, and vice president of football operations Russ Ball that they would not take as big a pay cut as the Packers proposed and would do everything right.

The Packers didn’t want to leave Jones hanging over the weekend, so they essentially told him he had to move on and turn his attention elsewhere.

They could hold on to Jones until Wednesday, when the new league year begins and the contract can be officially signed. But they did not want to put Jones in a position where, if he changed his mind about taking a pay cut, the Packers would have to tell him that the offer was no longer valid.

Consequently, given away his long history of fidelity to the association and the reference he has from the association and suckers, they released Jones on Monday so he could incontinently begin talking to other brigades. This was a threat, given away that the Jacobs deal could theoretically fall through between now and 4 pm on Wednesday.

ET, when free instrumentalities can formally subscribe with new brigades. In a statement released by the platoon on Monday, Gutekunst called moving on from Jones” one of the toughest opinions I’ve made in my time with the Packers and not one to be taken smoothly.” ” He has not only made a significant jolt on the field and in the locker space, but he’s one of the most cherished players in the community,” Gutekunst spoke.

Gutekunst and trainer Matt LaFleur noway doubt like Jacobs in portion because at 26, he is three times youngish than Jones, consequently he could potentially hold on to his starting running ago spot for the coming three to four times. Canstrengthen. However, it’ll nearly clearly be his final season in Green Bay, If the 29- time- old Jones responses.

Although Jacobs may not be the guy that LaFleur will line up in or out of the slot as a receiver as he did at times with Jones, the Packers believe his versatility as a rusher and receiver. Talent makes them dynamic. In terms of playing style, the Packers view him as Eddie Lacey in his prime – a powerful back that defenders don’t want to tackle in the open field.

The Packers need to add at least one more running back via free agency or the draft, but it won’t be expensive or come in the early rounds. AJ Dillon, who backed up Jones the last four years, is a free agent and will likely land elsewhere. They still have Emmanuel Wilson, who received a qualifying tender offer as an exclusive rights free agent on Monday  Click here Go to Read Other content

Exactly how much Gutekunst and Ball spent on Monday won’t be known until the structure of all the deals becomes available, but it’s safe to say it’s their most since the opening day of free agency in 2019. There was big spending, when they spent $182 million. 24 hours after signing Adrian Amos, Preston Smith, Za’Darius Smith and Billy Turner.

In addition to Jacobs, they agreed to a four-year, $68 million deal with former Giants safety Xavier McKinney. Like the Raiders, the Giants tried to retain McKinney, but the Packers moved on from him. After the Buccaneers placed the franchise tag on Antoine Winfield Jr., McKinney became their top target.

To make room for Jacobs and McKinney under the salary cap, the Packers also released left tackle David Bakhtiari on Monday and linebacker De’Vondre Campbell on Wednesday.

Gutekunst may not have been done in free agency, but most of his work happened on Monday. Click here

Special Counsel Robert Hur faces Congress over Mr Biden classified lines report

US lawgivers will caff
special counsel Robert Hur on Tuesday, weeks after his report into Mr Biden’s running of classified documents shook Washington.

The report found that Mr Biden “knowingly” retained the files, but declined to charge him with a crime.

Mr. Hur said the jury would see the president as a “well-intentioned, elderly man” with a failing memory, comments that angered the White House.

Voters’ concerns over Mr Biden’s age mean Republicans will focus on the comments.

The party has been claiming for months that the 81-year-old is not mentally fit to run for a second term in the White House, with polling showing that a significant portion of voters are also concerned about Mr Biden’s mental acuity.

Mr. Hur alleged in his February report that the President struggled to remember major events of his tenure as Vice President, and that he could not even remember when his term in office began.

The President immediately denied reported claims that he was suffering from memory problems, telling reporters: “I’m well-intentioned, and I’m an older man, and I know what I’m doing.”

While the special counsel said Mr. Biden “knowingly” retained many of the documents, some of which he stored in unsecured locations, including his garage, the jury was unlikely to convict him.

But the Republican Party continues to attack Mr. Biden! And he has criticized Mr. Hur’s refusal to press charges, comparing it to similar charges filed against former President Donald Trump.

“Having a poor memory does not absolve you of violating the Espionage Act. Being old and elderly does not absolve you of violating the Espionage Act,” Florida Representative Byron Donalds said on Fox News on Sunday.

Republican strategist and pollster Dan Judy told the BBC the party would certainly use the proceedings before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday to compare the treatment of the two men. He suggested Mr Trump’s allies might characterize the decision to charge him as “partisan witchcraft” and not Mr Biden.

“Now, the details are not the same in both cases, but I can see Republican members trying to push that argument,” he said. “Something like ‘You looked at this and decided not to impeach President Biden and yet President Trump has been accused of the same thing.'”

In June, Mr. Trump was charged with seven counts of handling classified documents after leaving the White House, with a trial potentially scheduled for this summer.

House Republicans have also asked Mr. Hur to turn over recordings and documents and transcripts of his interviews with Mr. Biden that he made during his year-long tenure.

Meanwhile, the White House was reportedly furious with the sources to Mr Biden’s mind, which comprehended suggestions that he couldn’t recall when his sire, Beau, failed. stating after publication, a visibly angry Mr Biden denied the profession, telling journalists” How in the Tophet stump he elevate that.” The BBC’s US mate, CBS News, reported that Biden administration officers prompted Mr Hur to” change” some of his language, calling delineations of the chairman’s mind” seditious”.

The special counsel declined to readdress the report. Other Egalitarians expressed questions as to whether Mr Hur’s commentary were applicable for a special counsel’s report. Eric Holder, who served as attorney general under President Barack Obama, spoke the sources to Mr Biden’s time were” inconsistent with long standing( Department of Justice) traditions”. click here

” Had this report been subject to a usual DOJ review these reflections would really have been gutted,” he scratched on X, formerly known as Twitter. But Mr Judy told the BBC that Republicans were nearly certain to influence questions around Mr Biden’s time, reflecting that they fit” neatly into the election time narrative about him, and is clearly the most sensational finding to come out of Hur’s report”.

US media reported that White House officers were sprucely overcritical of Attorney General Merrick Garland, who designated Mr Hur. Some officers, the crashes alluded, spoke Mr Garland should have challenged passages in the report concerning the chairman’s time. But stating to CNN, other Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who disaccorded with Mr Trump during his time in department, shielded Mr Hur. ” Public roar about special counsel crashes is ineluctable because internal crashes contain disturbing details people would prefer not to make public and private opinions that anyone is free to dispute,” Mr Rosenstein spoke. click here for more
